We have entered a new exciting phase of tailoring a bespoke adaptation of neuroscience principles to the existing practice of elite golfers. Using drill archetypes that target specific neural circuits, we work with these golfers to bring a deeper layer to their training. Training target acquisition requires practice acquiring targets. Improving feel (as Tiger refers to it “feel-to-real”) requires practicing tuning into one’s own sensory receptors. Improving precise motor programs requires practicing with a heightened “motor hygiene.” Finally, being able to error-correct on the fly requires practicing with an exaggerated perturbation of the normal swing dynamics. We are applying neuroscience and peak performance theory to make sure that the elite golfer is on track to actually train the needed circuits in a comprehensive way. We have developed a 200 drill 20 week program for a comprehensive training of the neural circuits for golf. We presented in July 2018 at the World Scientific Congress of Golf. Through these two experiences, we have realized that individualized tailoring of the neuroscience is the best way to meet the elite golfer right where they are with respect to game improvement.
Just as you would split time amongst driving drills, iron/approach work, chipping and putting, so too must there exist a balance in neural circuit training to prevent inadvertent neglect of a much needed skillset. If you are an elite golfer who is looking for that next level, contact me for an introductory 2 hour experience that brings you in touch with the power of your own brain.
